Philosophy
Humanity is an interwoven network of stories, and music is the language I use to explore them. What story can I help you explore, express, and share with your community?
I teach with a method of strong fundamentals supported by healthy technique, with varied repertoire including standards as well as student interests, and a commitment to exploring multiple modalities with a student to find the right ways into learning. I believe that learning music involves three points of respect and commitment: teacher, student, and supportive partners (parents or guardians, partners, friends etc.). When I respect the goals and creative wishes of the student, and they respect my knowledge and skill, we support one another to grow successfully.
A lifelong student turned professional, I have the ability to work with any level from beginners to advanced students, and any age group. I am passionate about providing you with the skills you need to have the experience you want: whether you are looking to get into a music college, pass your chair test, play your first instrument, or play for personal enjoyment, I am happy to help you achieve your goals.
The best part of making music is expressing yourself, and perhaps getting to share this expression with others. No matter your level or goals, I am committed to helping you learn the technique of an instrument as well as the ability to communicate something about who you are and what you love through music. I believe we learn incredible amounts about ourselves through playing music alone and together, and it is a gift to work with students in finding that out!
